About Political Junkies
During the 2004 election, several self professed political junkies working with me at The Bridgespan Group had the idea of starting a “political junkies breakfast club” where the group would get together every Monday morning to talk political strategy. The basic idea was we would park our ideology at the door and focus our discussion on political strategy – what would you do on a given day if you were the candidate or campaign manager? Although Bridgespan travel and other client demands (and my procrastination) kept the pjbc from getting off the ground, the idea remained something we wanted to do. Fast forward four years. Thanks to word press, we can now do this on-line sans finagle and starbucks for the group. Our goal is to bring together a virtual “club” of smart people who love to keep up to speed on the latest campaign info and data and talk strategy. We hope political junkies place (aka pj bc) will develop into an active group that will: – sign-up to cover specific newspapers, blogs and other sources of political info and share insightful news and stories on pjbc and thereby keep us all up to the minute current in a highly efficient way – share your thoughts on strategy – what would you do right now if you were Obama or McCain’s campaign manager? The rules are simple: – everyone that posts on political junkies is either a friend or a friend of a friend and many of us have worked in politics; you have to register to post – some of us are involved in businesses with political clients and therefore post under aliases – anyone can comment on a post, as long as they register – for those that post and comment, this is not a blog for debating issues or policy; there are plenty of great places for that. this is for people who can separate their policy views (and voting plans) from campaign strategy and answer the question “what would you do now?” even if you hope that strategy would not be effective! – any language that would not be cool around our dinner table (when my kids are present) is inappropriate Its a great year to be a junkie!
